Jello Pie Ingredients

You’ll need:

  • ⅔ cup boiling water
  • 1 (3-oz) package strawberry Jello mix
  • 1 cup ice water
  • 1 (16-oz) tub Cool Whip
  • 1 ready-to-use graham cracker crumb crust

Substitutions and Additions

JELLO: Try out different kinds of Jello for a whole new pie! Orange and lemon are delicious when mixed with creamy Cool Whip, or why not blue raspberry?

CRUST: Swap out a graham cracker crust for a chocolate or Oreo crust, or make your own from scratch!

TOPPING: There are lots of topping options for this Jello pie, like Cool Whip and maraschino cherries, fresh fruit, or a big scoop of ice cream.

How to Make This Strawberry Jello Pie Recipe

STEP ONE: In a medium bowl, stir together the boiling water and strawberry Jello until completely dissolved, about 2 minutes.

PRO TIP: Make sure the water is boiling, or the Jello powder won’t dissolve.

STEP TWO: Add the ice-cold water to the Jello mixture and stir until slightly thickened.

STEP THREE: Whisk in 2 cups of Cool Whip until well blended.

STEP FOUR: Refrigerate the pie filling for 30 minutes.

STEP FIVE: Pour the filling into a prepared pie shell, smooth the top, and cover it with plastic wrap. Refrigerate for a minimum of 4 hours before serving.

PRO TIP: Don’t cut into the pie too early. Giving it enough time to cool will allow the Jello to set fully, and the pie filling won’t be runny.

How To Serve

Serve this sweet and creamy pie for dessert at the end of a BBQ or anytime you want something light and yummy.

Storage

IN THE FRIDGE: Store any leftovers covered in the fridge and enjoy for up to 2 days.

FAQ:

Question: Why is my Jello pie runny?

Answer: It may be runny because there was too much water added, it was left out of the fridge too long before serving, or the pie wasn’t given enough time to set before serving. Make sure you measure very carefully, keep it in the fridge until it’s time to serve it, and make sure you allow it to fully set for at least 4 hours.

Question: Do I cover Jello in the fridge?

Answer: Don’t cover your pie until it’s fully cooled, cover it when putting it in the fridge. Leave the Cool Whip and Jello mixture uncovered in the refrigerator for 30 minutes so condensation doesn’t build up in the bowl.

Question: Can I add fruit to Jello pie?

Answer: Yes, you can! Add small pieces of canned fruit to the Jello and Cool Whip mixture. Make sure you don’t add too much of the liquid from the can or your pie will be runny.
