Better Than Sex Cake Ingredients

You’ll need:

• Devil’s food chocolate boxed cake mix plus ingredients listed on the cake box
• 1 14-ounce can of sweetened condensed milk
• 1 jar of caramel sauce
• 8 ounce tub of Cool Whip
• 4 Heath candy bars, chopped

Substitutions and Additions

CAKE: Swap out Devil’s food cake for whatever your favorite cake is, like vanilla or marble! Spice cake with caramel sauce would also make for a delicious fall variation of this better than sex cake recipe.  

CARAMEL SAUCE: You can substitute the caramel sauce for any other sauce you enjoy, like hot fudge!

COOL WHIP: Substitute your homemade whipped cream recipe for Cool Whip, or try ours. 

HEATH BARS: I love using Heath candy bars in this recipe, but anything will do! Try different candy bars like Skor or KitKat, or your favorite cookies!

How to Make This Better Than Sex Cake Recipe

STEP ONE: In a 9-inch by 13-inch cake pan, bake the cake according to the package directions. While still warm from the oven, poke the entire cake with the handle of a wooden spoon.

PRO TIP: Swap out up to a cup of the milk/water in the cake mix recipe for room temperature coffee. You won’t taste the coffee and you’ll be left with a deep chocolate taste. 

PRO TIP: If you’re short on time, bake the cake and poke holes in it the day before. 

STEP TWO: Slowly pour the sweetened condensed milk evenly over the top of the cake and spread it out.

STEP THREE: Slowly pour the caramel sauce over the entire cake and spread evenly.

PRO TIP: Air bubbles can sometimes occur as the sauces fill the holes in the cake. Gently tap the cake pan on the counter to release the bubbles. 

STEP FOUR: Refrigerate the cake for at least two hours.

STEP FIVE: Evenly spread Cool Whip on the cake and sprinkle the top with bits of Heath.

IN THE FRIDGE: Cover the pan in plastic wrap and store in the fridge for up to 2 days (although it doesn’t last that long in my house!).

IN THE FREEZER: Freeze this cake for a future treat by wrapping it tightly in plastic wrap, wrapping it again in aluminum foil, and freezing for up to 3 months. Thaw in the fridge before serving. As Cool Whip can stick to plastic wrap, I recommend you have extra Cool Whip and chopped Heath bars on hand for serving.

Instructions

• Preheat oven to 350°F. Prepare a 9×13 dish by spraying with nonstick spray.
• Make the cake according to the package directions for a 9×13 cake.
• When the cake is done baking use the round handle end of a wooden spoon and poke holes all throughout the cake.
• Pour the sweetened condensed milk all over the top of the cake and spread it out.
• Then pour the caramel sauce over the top of the cake and spread it out.
• Refrigerate the cake for at least two hours.
• Spread the Cool Whip on top of the cooled cake and sprinkle with chopped Heath bars.

Notes

TIP: It’s best to make the holes in the cake while it is still slightly warm because as it cools, the crust on top of the cake will crumble more easily.

TIP: When you’re pouring the cream into the holes, tap the pan on the counter a few times to get rid of any air bubbles and make sure the cream fills the holes completely.
