Homemade dog treats are a simple way to spoil your furry best friend! With whole wheat flour, molasses, and peanut butter, your dog is sure to love them. These come together quickly and bake up in one batch so you can have homemade dog biscuits quicker than you can run to the store to buy them!

Homemade Dog Treats Ingredients

You’ll need:

  • 1 cup peanut butter, smooth
  • 1 tablespoon molasses
  • 1 cup milk
  • 2 cups whole wheat flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder

Substitutions and Additions

PEANUT BUTTER: There are many substitutions you can try in place of peanut butter, like sweet potatoes, pumpkin, or bananas.

FLOUR: We used whole wheat flour as it has a higher nutritional value, but all-purpose flour works, too.

How to Make This Homemade Dog Treats Recipe

STEP ONE: Preheat the oven to 350°F.

STEP TWO: Add all ingredients to a large bowl.

STEP THREE: Blend on low using a hand or stand mixer until well blended. When combined, the mixture should have the texture of dough.

STEP FOUR: Once well mixed, put the dough between two sheets of parchment paper or on a floured surface. Using a rolling pin, roll to approximately ¼ inch in thickness.

STEP FIVE: Use a cookie cutter or glass to cut out biscuits.

PRO TIP: Dip your cookie cutter in flour before cutting out biscuits, so the dough doesn’t stick.

STEP SIX: Place the cookies on a baking sheet covered in parchment, then bake for approximately 17 minutes. Cool completely on a cooling rack, then serve to your furry friend.

Storage

IN THE FRIDGE: Store these homemade treats in an airtight container in the fridge for up to two months.

IN THE FREEZER: Store these easy homemade dog treats in an airtight container before placing them in the freezer for up to eight months.

Treat your furry friend to a delicious baked good, too! Filled with peanut butter, these homemade dog treats are the perfect way to show them you care.

FAQ:

Question: Do I need to refrigerate homemade dog treats?

Answer: I recommend keeping them stored in the fridge. They last longer and stay fresher this way.

Question: How many treats does this recipe make?

Answer: It makes about 40 treats, but it depends on the size of the cookie cutter you use. The bigger the cookie cutter, the fewer the treats, and vice versa.

Question: Can I give these homemade dog treats to any dog?

Answer: You know your dog best and what they can and can’t have. While this recipe avoids dogs’ most common food sensitivities, you may want to check with owners before sharing treats.
